TrainSpeedTest.net is designed to be privacy-first. Your GPS location data is processed entirely in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.
What Data We Collect
GPS / Location Data
When you use the speed test, your browser requests your device's GPS position via the Web Geolocation API. This data is processed locally in JavaScript running in your browser. Your precise latitude and longitude coordinates are never sent to TrainSpeedTest.net servers.
Trip History
Trip summaries (duration, distance, maximum speed, average speed) are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device. You can view, export, and delete this data from the Trip History section.
Analytics
TrainSpeedTest.net may use privacy-respecting analytics (e.g., page view counts) that do not collect personal information or precise location data. If analytics are present, they are configured to anonymise IP addresses and not set tracking cookies.
What Data We Do NOT Collect
- Precise GPS coordinates
- Route history or movement patterns
- Device identifiers
- Personally identifiable information (no account required)
Cookies
TrainSpeedTest.net does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. User preferences (selected speedometer design, preferred speed unit) are stored in localStorage, which remains on your device.
Third-Party Services
TrainSpeedTest.net does not share any location or usage data with third-party advertising networks. If third-party services are used (such as font providers), they are limited to services that do not track individual users.
Your Rights
Since all personal data (trip history, preferences) is stored locally on your device, you have full control. You can delete all data at any time by clearing the Trip History in the app or clearing your browser's localStorage for this site.
